Recent hurricanes have reminded us that we should all be prepared for an emergency. An unexpected evacuation or “shelter in place” situation can occur at any time! Preparing Your Basic Disaster Supplies Kit

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security recommends each family prepare an emergency kit. All items should be stored in airtight plastic bags. Store your kit in “one or two easy-to-carry containers such as plastic bins or a duffel bag” (per Ready.gov). The kit should include at least the following (also from Ready.gov):

• Dust mask to help filter contaminated air and plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter-in-place
• Moist towelettes, garbage bags, and plastic ties for personal sanitation
• Local maps
• Cell phone with chargers and a backup battery
